Team Doherty Wins City Auto Glass Walleye Classic

Dan and Jake Doherty of Hibbing reeled in a tournament-record 15.28 pounds of walleyes to win the 12th annual City Auto Glass Walleye Classic held Saturday on Lake Vermilion. Their catch included a tournament-record 10-pound, 2-ounce walleye. The two anglers took home first-place prize money of $12,500.

Jonathan Neisen of Woodbury, Minn., and Mike Neisen of St. Paul weighed 12.77 pounds to place second. Third place went to Mike Lorenz of Chisholm and John Schweiberger of Hibbing with 11.6 pounds.

A record 110 boats fished this year’s tourney, and anglers caught a tournament-record 492 walleyes. The fish were released after being weighed.
