Two Harbors Kayak Festival Kicks Off Today

The 19th annual Two Harbors Kayak Festival kicks off at 5 p.m. today and runs through 1 p.m. Sunday with kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) races of three distances on Lake Superior, kayak exhibits and try-outs, SUP demos, family tours, kids’ kayaking and more.
The family-friendly event is held along the beach on Burlington Bay in Two Harbors.
The three races, open to both kayaks and SUPs, are the John Abrahams 18-Mile Marathon, the Ellen Anderson 10-Mile Race and the Betty’s Pies 5-Mile Race (all open to competitors 16 or older). In addition, there are Youth Sprint Races for younger paddlers. Racers typically come from across the Upper Midwest and beyond.
The event continues with more kayak and SUP tours and demos through 1 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, go to kayakfestival.upnorthmn.net.
