Shagawa, Ojibway and Bear Island lakes to open for whitefish netting

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has announced opening dates for whitefish and cisco netting on three more lakes in northern Minnesota. The following lakes will open for whitefish and cisco netting on Saturday:

  • Shagawa Lake near Ely will be open through Nov. 24. Netters must use a 3½-inch or greater net stretch measure. Also, nets and equipment used in Shagawa Lake may not be used in any other body of water in 2013 because the lake is designated as infested with spiny waterflea.
  • Ojibway Lake in Lake County and Bear Island Lake in St. Louis County will be open through Dec. 20. Netters on both lakes must use a 1¾-inch or greater net stretch measure.
