Andrew Wick and Tony Troumbly, both of Coleraine, took top honors and a Ranger RT 188 aluminum bass boat at the Classic Bass Invitational tournament held Aug. 29-30 on Pokegama Lake at Grand Rapids.
Wick and Troumbly brought a pair of six-bass limits to the scale for a total two-day weight of 44.75 pounds. They used top-water frogs fished along weedlines in the Mississippi River north of the “hot pond” to put together their winning basket, which was comprised entirely of largemouths.
Arnie Nichols and Gregg Peterson were close behind in second place with 44.33 pounds. Tony Hatten and Matt Seymour claimed third with a two-day weight of 43.62 pounds.
A total of 270 bass weighing 809.79 pounds crossed the Classic Bass stage, of which 99 percent were returned to the Pokegama system unharmed, tournament officials said.
