A record 392 bow hunters will be eligible to hunt in this fall’s Duluth city bow hunt for deer, said Brian Borkholder of the Arrowhead Bowhunters Alliance. The alliance conducts the hunt for the city.
Last year, 359 hunters were placed in the hunt, and in 2011 a total of 377 hunters took part, Borkholder said.
Of the 392 hunters this fall, 305 have participated in the hunt before, and 87 are new to the hunt. The hunters were selected in a lottery on July 11.
To participate in the hunt, hunters must pay a registration fee, take a bow hunter education course and pass a shooting proficiency test. This fall will mark the ninth year of the hunt. Last year, hunters took 574 deer. Over the past eight years, hunters have taken 4,351 deer in the city.
