I joined Duluth’s Bob Maas and Mark Koivula for a day of fishing on the Rainy River near Baudette on Wednesday. This has been a cold, frustrating spring for anglers on the Rainy, with cold water temperatures and mostly small fish in the system. We caught a decent number of fish for the day, a total of 26, with a couple of beauties. Maas caught a 29 1/2-incher and Koivula a 28 1/2-incher. You can read about our trip in Sunday’s Duluth News Tribune.

Here are a couple more photos from our outing Wednesday.

Catching walleyes can be tiring. T.J. Martin (left) of Jolley, Iowa, fishes while his partner, Clark Johnson of Farmington, Minn., takes a little nap Wednesday afternoon on the Rainy River. (Sam Cook photo)
