Here’s the latest on ice conditions on the Rainy River, where walleye fishing continues through April l4. This report is from Sportsman’s Lodge in Baudette:
“Despite the cool temperatures the river has been opening up. The river is currently open about 4 miles west of Frontier right now. The Birchdale and Frontier landings both have quite a bit of shore ice at this time. We understand the county will be plowing at Birchdale this week. We will let you know as soon as that gets done. As for now small boats can be pushed out at this time. The water clarity is great and the current is calm. Anglers have been having good luck, reeling in 40-70 walleyes a day along with a few sturgeon.”
