In late October, I wrote a pre-season deer story about the B.J. and Heather Berg family of Hibbing, and especially about the importance of hunting and fishing to all family members. The story centered on Tori Berg, 13, and her grandfather, Morry Berg of Williams, Minn., and a story Tori had written about shooting her first buck as she sat in a deer stand with Morry.
Her older sister, Britny, hadn’t shot a buck at that time, but all of that changed about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, opening day of Minnesota’s firearms deer season. Sitting with her grandfather, Britny, 16, shot an eight-point buck.
As she told her mom, Heather Berg, “I saw it before Grandpa.”
Congratulations, Britny. And Morry.
