Whitefish, cisco netting open Saturday

Whitefish and cisco (tullibee) netting will open Saturday on Lake Vermilion, Newton, Basswood and Fall lakes in the Ely and Tower areas, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The season will remain open through Nov. 14.

Opening dates for netting are determined based on fish abundance, climatic conditions and vulnerability of game fish, according to the DNR.

Fishing regulations require that whitefish and cisco netters have a whitefish netting license.
