Simpler Deer Hunting Rules

I see that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is trying to simplify deer hunting regulations. The department asked a citizens’ panel to look at the regs and make recommendations for changes. The group met once in December and once in January. It came up with several ideas. They include eliminating a couple of licenses (all-season and multi-zone buck), consolidating hunting zones and other recommendations. Look for complete details in a News Tribune outdoors story this Sunday (March 2) or online Sunday at www.duluthnewstribune.com.
Most hunters would agree that trying to sort out current deer hunting regulations is a complicated task. The DNR’s stepping back to take a fresh look at the regs will probably be welcomed by hunters. And involving citizens in making those changes is wise. Now, hunters statewide will have a chance to discuss the proposals at upcoming meetings around the state. The dates and places of those meetings will be listed along with Sunday’s stories in the paper and online.
