Jim and Linda Boyd, who live just outside of Carlton, sent me a photo on Wednesday — the day before Thanksgiving — of a wild turkey walking along the railing of their deck.
"A wild turkey shows up to greet us good
morning while we were eating breakfast," they wrote. "What a coincidence this is!"
The Boyds said they’ve been seeing two wild turkeys roaming just outside Carlton for the past two years or so.
"We have seen the pair numerous times in the woods, but not in our yard before," they wrote. "As of last spring, there was only one left. And
then to our amazement, what should magically appear on our deck but this one!? What a treat Mother Nature gave us this morning!"
The transplanting success of wild turkeys in Minnesota has been nothing short of phenomenal. The birds have become established far north of original projections. Here’s hoping the Boyds enjoy seeing these handsome wild creatures a lot more in coming months and years.
And may you enjoy eating turkey today — whether wild or store-bought.
