Bowhunting In Duluth

While a lot of us are gearing up for Minnesota’s firearms deer season opener on Nov. 3,
bowhunters in the city of Duluth are plugging away, trying to reduce the
city’s deer population. As of Monday (Oct. 29), a total of 263 antlerless deer
and 11 antlered deer had been taken in the hunt, according to Brian Borkholder
of the Arrowhead Bowhunters Alliance, which conducts the hunt for the city. Last
year, city bowhunters took 564 deer during the hunt, which runs through Dec. 31.

The next couple
of weeks are prime time for bowhunters, as deer movements increase with the rut
(mating season). If you live in
Duluth, this is
the time of year to be especially vigilant when driving city streets. You could
easily end up with a buck as a hood ornament.
